How to create a GPX file

Create a GPX file is very easy and simple. But what is it GPX, KML or KMZ file?
GPX, or GPS eXchange Format is a common GPS data format for software applications. It can be used to describe waypoints, tracks, and routes.
KML is a file for showing of the geographic position - waypoints, tracks and routes - on two and three-dimensional maps. For exempel you can see KML file with Google Maps and Google Earth.
KMZ are zipped KML file.
Can you create these files? Yes. Anyone can do this. You need two programs to create a GPX file - EasyGPS and GPSBabel. You can download both programs from the internet for free.

This address creates a walking GPX file. You can change 'foot' to 'car', 'car/shortest' or 'bicycle' if you want.
Click on the map to start point. The first coordinates are latitude and second longitude. Copy coordinates without parentheses and paste instead of 'start_point'. Remove blank space before longitude.
Click on the map to end point and copy coordinates without parentheses. Paste instead of 'end_point'. Remove blank space before longitude.

Open the next window in your browser. Copy address from the Notebook, paste in browser Address field and then press Enter to continue. If you get a download promt everything is OK. Save it on your PC. Open this file (route) using GPSBabel and convert to track. Open now converted file (track) using EasyGPS and rename the waypoints, or delete if you do not need any. Start and end waypoints you can keep. It's done!
You can now upload your track to your GPS using EasyGPS.

How to get a KML or KMZ file?

To see your GPX file on Google Maps or Google Earth you must convert to KML or KMZ file. It's very easy.
Click on this link: gpsvisualizer.com. Select at General map parameters, Output file type: as KML or KMZ and select your GPX file. Save a new file on your PC.
Open or create your account on maps.google.com
Click on My places -> Create new map -> Import and choose your KML or KMZ file. Now, you can see your GPX file on Google Maps or Google Earth. You can share with your map or publish on the Internet as either a link or iframe. Click here to view a sample map with waypoints or here to view a sample map without waypoints.

There is other way to create a KML or KMZ file. Connect your GPS device with a track to your PC. Go to the top of the Google Earth and click Tools -> GPS -> Import. Save then imported file as KML or KMZ on your PC.

How to convert a KMZ or KML file to GPX?

Open the KMZ in Google Earth. Right click on it in My Place and save as a KML. Click on this link: gpsvisualizer.com. Select at Output format: GPX and select your KML file. Save a new file on your PC.
